PA National Guard Memorial

This weekend I covered the Pennyslvania National Guard 28th Infantry "Keystone" Division Annual Memorial Service at the Boalsburg Military Museum.  I covered the event last year, and took one of my favorite photographs of 2011 at the event.  Since I already knew the layout of the event I was brainstorming ways to get different images than I had last year.  I knew moving around throughout the ceremony would help to vary images, and this is something I have been working on.  Sometimes I fear I am a distraction when I move around too much, but I have learned that more angles help to round out my coverage and I notice small things that create cleaner backgrounds and unique vantage points.  IT was also important this year to get the keynote speaker, former National Guard member, Governor Tom Corbett.

Witness Stand

As I was on my way into work yesterday I got a call to head to the Centre County courthouse in Bellefonte.  I was on a mission that we weren't sure how it would work out.  The Sandusky trial is set to start in the upcoming weeks and for a story about the kids who are involved having to testify they wanted photos of the witness stand.

When I arrived at the courthouse and checked in with the deputy on duty I was pleased to hear the courtroom wasn't being used and I was free to go in and take photos.  After finding the light switches to the room I worked with making the most dramatic angle possible to display the view these young adults will have as they will have to recall events to the accused Sandusky, a judge, the jury, and many members of the press.

Fast Dogs, Fast Cars

On Sunday afternoon I photographed an event called Fast Dogs, Fast Cars.  Those who attended got to browse and gawk over some fancy fast cars, and then cuddle and love some fast dogs.  The car show was held to raise money for the Nittany Greyhounds, a group that helps find retired racing greyhounds homes and loving owners.

The show also had several other local animal rescue groups there with more puppies who need good homes.  That's where I fell in love with Remi, a 9 week old boxer great dane mix.  Too adorable to not share these photos.

Orchids

Over the weekend the Central Pennsylvania Orchid Society held their 47th annual Orchid Show at the Ag Arena.  When I walked in I was disappointed to see that there were not very many displays.  But as I started to walk around I was amazed at how gorgeous the flowers were.  It was hard to stop taking up close photos of the flowers to get a few with people in them browsing the displays.  Everyone I chatted with was amazed about the varieties of the plant as I was and were enjoying the event which was completely free.

Galleries to Check Out

So I apologize I have been terrible at updating lately!  Busy schedule here at work and lots and lots of photos being taken but not enough time to post everything.

To view some things that have been keeping me busy I thought I'd share links to photo galleries on the Centre Daily Times website.  Read on...

Several weeks ago the Penn State College of Liberal Arts held a fundraiser to help Prevent Child Abuse Pennsylvania.  To raise money they sold pinwheels that were then placed in rows outside of the Sparks building on Campus.  I was inspired to make this short video as the the wind would start to blow which sent all the pinwheels spinning.

Blue and White weekend is always a great spring alumni event, but this year had even more news than ever.  It was the first time new football coach Bill O'Brien took the field in Beaver Stadium and showed off what the team has been working on.

After a freak snow storm May has decided to show that spring is really here, and hopefully to stay.  Warm sunny skies filled my friday afternoon at Mansion Park for a all day track meet.

This was a project that copy desker Erin and I decided to work on several weeks ago.  It finally ran this weekend so I can share the photos!  We visited a pair of local wineries and got behind the scenes tours.

And finally, graduation weekend in Happy Valley.  Thousands of family members, friends, and alumni flood to town as the spring class of 2012 commencement ceremonies stretched through the weekend.

Hopefully that is a good view into what I've been working on lately and I promise I will be better at blogging in the weeks to come!
